I-5 Northbound lanes have reopened on the Ship Canal Bridge! Following weeks of weekend closures and reduced weekday access, all lanes are now open. This marks a significant step forward in the ongoing bridge preservation efforts. The southbound express lane reopened around 5:00 AM. Crews have worked diligently to complete critical repairs and upgrades to the structure. Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed the early reopening of the northbound lanes, ahead of schedule. During the roadwork, only the northbound lanes were affected. Crews raised the bridge deck approximately 900 feet, replacing five expansion joints and over 80 drainage structures. This work is part of a larger effort to protect the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge. Fall will see crews return to address drainage work on the southbound lanes, with dates to be announced later. Preservation work is expected to continue through 2027, with potential lane reductions and full closures anticipated in 2026 and 2027.
