SR 16 in Gig Harbor reopens following a crash involving a suspected DUI driver. The eastbound lanes had been closed near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge due to a collision within a work zone. Authorities confirm the roadway has now fully reopened after a closure lasting approximately one hour. According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:45 AM. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence and struck several construction vehicles. Thankfully, no workers were injured during the collision. The situation prompted a hazardous materials response from the Gig Harbor Fire Department after the driver also impacted a device containing radioactive materials. Officials have assured the public that there was no danger to the surrounding community. The driver was apprehended and taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.
