关于区域服务部

法律助理职责与核心职能 1

  • 组织并发送大量认证邮件至各相关方,涉及印第安儿童福利法案(ICWA);

  • 接听并转接电话;
  • 在办公室时接待客户及公众;
  • 根据分配执行其他任务;

The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Legal Assistant 1 in the Regional Services Division. This position in located in Port Angeles, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).

Legal Assistant 1 (Range 42) salary range: $45,024 - $60,132 annually (Effective 7/1/2025) | $45,924 - $61,332 Annually (Effective 7/1/2026)
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

About the Regional Services Division

The Port Angeles Regional Services Division (RSD) is a small office with 5 attorneys and 5 professional staff.  We cover two counties, Clallam and Jefferson. Our main clients are the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Department of Labor and Industries and our local Peninsula College. Our office is located in downtown Port Angeles.


Duties and Essential Functions of a Legal Assistant 1

Under the supervision of Paralegal 2/Office Lead, this position performs general clerical work and basic technical legal assignments within the Port Angeles Regional Services Division.  This position is part of a cohesive team and the work performed is vital to keeping the division running smoothly. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Extract and verify case data for accurate and timely processing of legal documents and identification and/or entry of key dates and other data in the agency’s case management database;
  • Mail and e-mail processing;
  • Processing receipt of dependency petitions;
  • Organize and send large certified mailings regarding ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act) to various parties;
  • Receive and distribute discovery via Managed File Transfer;
  • Maintain multi-function device;
  • Scan paper documents to electronic form for long-term record retention;
  • Answer and route phone calls
  • Greet clients and general public when in office
  • Other duties as assigned

While the duties can seem overwhelming at first glance, the desired candidate will understand the ebb and flow of duties and assignments and develop own processes, over time, to accomplish tasks with limited effort. The office staff and supervisor are willing to offer assistance during the training process and throughout the candidate’s tenure, when tasks may be interrupted by filing, an influx of mail to be distributed, or other delay. 

This recruitment announcement may be used to fill multiple open positions for the same classification, in addition to the position(s) listed in this announcement.


Qualifications: 

Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of one year of experience in a legal environment; 

Option 2: Two years of legal office experience; 

Option 3: A combination of three years of college education and/or relevant experience; 

Option 4: A two year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.
